The P-series of smartphones, under which the Ascend P6 resides, were designed by Huawei primarily for people to whom the looks of a smartphone is most important. The priority is for a smartphone that is stylish, fashionable and elegant to people and the Ascend P6 is designed for that.
Overall, the P-series lie between the D-series and the G-series. The former are Huawei's top of the line high-end smartphones and the latter are mid-range smartphones. As a result, the P-series are not the best in terms of features or specs, but they're are also no the most expensive.
Huawei has since released the Ascend P6S, an improvement of the original P6. That phone only featured internal changes and therefore was more of a minor update and not a true replacement. However, Huawei has now released the Ascend P7, which is to replace its predecessor, the P6.
What are the differences between the Huawei Ascend P7 and Ascend P6?
The new Ascend P7 sticks for the most part to the general design that was introduced with the Ascend P6. As a result, the phones look very similar. With that said, there are a number of differences:
- Dimensions of the P7 are larger than the P6 as the P7 is physically bigger. The P7 is also a few grams heavier, but most people will probably not notice the difference in weight.
- The P7 replaces the 4.7 inch touchscreen in the P6 with a 5.0 inch touchscreen. It also supports Full-HD with a resolution of 1920x1080, while the P6 was limited to 1280x720 or regular HD.
- Huawei has replaced their own processor in the P6 with a newer one, which is more competitive with its peers than was the case with its predecessor.
- The Android operating system has been updated from Jelly Bean to KitKat and Huawei's EmotionUI skin has been updated to the latest version.
- The earphone jack is located on top instead of on the side as in the P6
- The Ascend P7 now includes support for 4G LTE, which the P6 lacked.
- Internal storage has been doubled in the P7 from 8 gigabytes in the P6 to 16 gigabytes.
- Battery capacity in the Ascend P7 is 20 percent larger than in the P6.

What's good about the Huawei Ascend P7
Here are a few things that people may like about the P7:
- When it comes to the P-series, looks are what's most important. While people can disagree on how to define what's a good-looking phone, most people will probably like how the Ascend P7 looks from the outside. The Ascend P7 is supposed to be a pretty smartphone and it succeeds in accomplishing this goal by retaining the general design of the P6. That design achieved recognition and even won some awards. The P7 wisely stuck to a design that was well received and the P7 can in all fairness be called a stylish smartphone for those who want to be fashionable.
- Another characteristic of the Ascend P6 was its metal body, which makes a return in the P7. You can count on the P7 to be sturdier than most other smartphones. It won't damage as easily and you don't have to worry as much if the phone takes a hit. This is a good attribute to have if you're someone who outside a lot and constantly on the move. In such cases, a smartphone is more likely to fall on, for example, the pavement. A metal body, such as the one found on the P7, gives you a extra layer of protection that should hold up over time.
- The P6 was not a perfect smartphone and had its flaws. One of them was that the P6 may look absolutely state-of-the-art from the outside, it wasn't from the inside. For example, the phone came with a processor that Huawei had released 18 months earlier, which is a very long time for this type of component. However, it seems the extra power is needed to compensate for the increased power consumption of the larger 5 inch Full-HD screen compared to the 4.7 inch HD screen of the original. As a result, battery life doesn't seem to have improved much, but stays roughly the same in the P7. If long battery life is crucial to you, the Huawei Ascend P7 is not a good choice for a smartphone.
- Speaking of thin smartphones, the Ascend P7 is not as thin at 6.5 mm. The Ascend P6 was the thinnest smartphones available when it was released at 6.18 mm. Thin is usually associated with premium smartphones and are usually more expensive. Some people might not care, but if you wanted the thinnest smartphones around, the P7 is not the one as was the case with the P6.

Overall evaluation of the Huawei Ascend P7 strengths and weaknesses
In my opinion, the Huawei Ascend P7 is basically a better and improved version of the Ascend P6. It fixes most of the flaws of the P6, while mostly retaining the strengths of the original. The P7 supports fast 4G LTE cellular connections, there is a Full-HD screen and battery capacity has been increased, although the phone is now thicker.
You get the same look introduced with the P6 and the same sturdy metal body. The P7 is reasonably priced at around $400. While not the cheapest smartphone around, the price is fair. Remember, the P7 is a metal smartphone and should not be compared to smartphones made of plastic. They're different types of smartphones and should only be compared to other phone in the same class.
The Ascend P6 is good for people who mostly want a good-looking phone at a fair price. It's a smartphone can you can show off to other people and takes great selfies. Good for the trendy and fashionable crowd if you want to stand out. It will also cost less than equivalent smartphones from most other brands.
The biggest drawback is that battery life is so-so. Charging at the end of the day is required. People who make heavy use of the their smartphone will probably want to stay away from the P7. As long as battery life is not crucial to you and you can afford its asking price, the Huawei Ascend P7 should be on your list of smartphones to consider.
