Some are even completely new companies with brands that have been founded for the sole purpose of trying to get established and gain marketshare in the smartphone market. One of the newer brands that have entered the market in recent years is Oppo.
Who is Oppo?
Oppo is a brand owned by Oppo Electronics Corp, a Chinese company founded in 2004. The company initially sold consumer electronics such as MP3 players, DVD players and LCD televisions. Starting from 2012 they began releasing their own line of smartphones, the latest being the Find 7 which is now their flagship high-end smartphone model.
The Find 7 comes in two variants, the first is the Find 7, also known ad the Find 7 QHD and the second is the Find 7a, also known as the Find 7 FHD. The QHD and FHD in their model names indicate that the former comes with a Quad High-Definition (QHD) screen, while the latter has a Full High-Definition (FHD) screen.
There are other minor differences between the two modes in terms of processor clock speed, internal storage, memory and battery capacity. The Find 7a is basically a downgraded, but also cheaper version of the Find 7. Like all phones there will be some things that people will like or dislike about the Oppo Find 7 and it's therefore worth taking a look at what those things are.

What's good about the Oppo Find 7:
- The Oppo Find 7 is marketed as a high-end smartphone and it doesn't disappoint in this regard. Every component on the Find 7 is top of the line. Whether it's the processor, touchscreen, memory, internal storage, battery and so on, the Find 7 has the specs to match or exceed every other smartphone that's out there.
- The QHD version of the Find 7 is one of the first smartphones on the market with a Quad High-Definition (QHD) scratch-resistant screen. Regular High-Definition (HD) is defined as a resolution of 1280x720. A QHD screen is four times sharper by doubling both the horizontal and vertical resolution to 2560x1440. The Find 7 QHD has one of the sharpest screens currently available.

The frame around the body of the Oppo Find 7 is constructed of an alloy made of Titanium and Aluminum. This makes the phone very sturdy and you will feel the difference when you hold it in your hands, especially when compared to other phones that are usually made of plastic. Although expensive and difficult to manufacture, Titanium is both stronger and lighter than metals such as steel. This ensures that the phone will not get damaged as easily as other phones and, by acting as a heatsink, helps keep the phone cool and prolongs the life of the phone.
- Both cameras on the Find 7 are packed with useful features. For example, wide-angle shots allow you to fit more things within a single photo. By combining up to 10 separate shots, you can create a single photo of up to 50 megapixels. A highly sensitive sensor with backside illumination helps reduce noise in photos even under less than optimal conditions such as darkness. The front camera supports 4K video and slow-motion HD video at 120 frames per second to ensure smooth playback of video clips.
- Like most phablets, the Oppo Find 7 has great battery life. However, what makes it unique is its ability to recharge itself very rapidly. For instance, it takes only 30 minutes to reach 75 percent of total capacity. For emergencies, faster charging at only five minutes is available. This feature can come in quite handy when you're somewhere and low on power and need to recharge quickly because you don't have much time.
- Oppo uses a customized operating system based on Android, which they will update a couple of time every month. The upside is that new features can be added quickly and bugs can also be fixed quickly. The downside is that the software can be more unstable as there are more bugs in the software. You can contact the company directly and they will respond and listen yo your feedback or input on anything such as how to make the phone better. Not every company is like that.
What people may dislike about the Oppo Find 7 QHD
What's bad about the Oppo Find 7:
- With so much packed into one smartphone, it's not surprising that the Oppo Find 7 does not come cheap at around $600. That's slightly cheaper compared to equivalent products from other brands, but not by much. The price is actually fair considering what you're getting in return, but it's still a lot for most people. The high price probably ensures that the phone will be out of reach for most people.
- The main problem with the Oppo Find 7 is its brand. Most people, at least in the United States, will probably not be familiar with the name, although it's one of the top brands in China. Many people may be hesitant to lay down a large sum of money for a product from a company that they do not know very well. The phone may be a very good product, but not everyone may be willing to take the risk. It's more likely that these people will settle for something from a more established company.

Evaluation of the pros and cons of the Oppo Find 7 QHD
The Oppo has a lot going for it. It's unfortunate that it will likely be held back by its name, which mostly lacks brand recognition. In time that may change as the company grows and more and more people become acquainted with their products. The company wasn't born yesterday, but it's still fairly young and that has an impact on how people will perceive their products, whether deservedly or not.
For now, the fate of the Oppo rests on how much someone values the brand of their smartphone. If it's important, they will likely pick something else. If it's not and they're willing to give it a change because they recognize that every company was once unknown, the Oppo stands a good chance based on merit.
In my own opinion, the Oppo Find 7 is an excellent phone to have as long as you satisfy two conditions. One is that you can afford to spend a significant amount of money on one smartphone. Two is that you have no issues with trying a product from a company that doesn't ring any bells.
Once you get past those two issues, you'll likely find that the product is fairly price and quite good actually. If you want to spend less money, you can opt for the Oppo Find 7a, which is cheaper, but also has weaker specs in some areas. It's a tradeoff that some people might find appealing.
